Every post is a waste of time...
...unless it targets a funnel. Stop counting followers. Start counting leads.
"How many social posts are you doing this week?" It's the question I hear most. Wrong question. The only one that matters: how many of those posts turned into leads?
How many posts this week?
Posting feels like progress. The calendar fills up, the likes trickle in, and everyone feels busy. It's human nature to count what's easy to count.
The nerd bit: follow the clicks
Here's a test anyone can run. Open your website analytics, pick a full year, and look at the visits that came from social media. Then ask: how many came from people who follow you, and how many came from posts you paid to boost?
When I dug into a year of this data, roughly one in ten social clicks came from followers. The rest came from paid. The followers were nice to have. They weren't the ones turning up.
Followers are a vanity metric
A vanity metric looks good in a report and changes nothing in the bank account. Followers, likes, reach, impressions: they make you feel good. Leads pay the rent. So don't worry about who's following you. Worry about who's clicking through, and what they do next.
Every post needs a job
Before you post, ask one question: where in the funnel is this person, and what do I want them to do next? Discover you, trust you, or buy from you. A post with no job is just noise, and you're paying for it with your time.
Followers are applause. Leads are the box office.
