(lack of) Privacy Policy

This is a digital strategy site. If you switch everything off, you'll never see what's possible. So here's exactly what I do, and you stay in control.

Why "lack of"?

Most privacy policies are thousands of words written so nobody reads them. Mine is the opposite: short, honest, and on show.

When remarketing switches on, and you see my ad after visiting this site, that's not creepy. It's the strategy working, and it's exactly what I'd set up for your business. Watching it happen to you is the best demo I can give.

Remarketing: it's not surveillance when you know how it works.

Understanding how the internet works is marketing 101. It explains all the things that feel "weird", like the shoes that follow you from site to site after you looked at them once. Nothing spooky, just a system you can learn. It's all logic. When something online feels wrong, the logic is wrong somewhere, and the fun is finding where.

The "lack of" is a wink, not a loophole. You still choose, every time, and everything below is what the law asks for.

What I do

  • Host this site on Cloudflare. Their servers log basic visit details, like your IP (Internet Protocol) address, browser and the pages you load, to keep the site secure and running.
  • Load a few files from other services. Fonts from Google Fonts, map tiles from OpenFreeMap, and code from unpkg and jsDelivr. When your browser fetches them, those services see your IP address.
  • Count your Jargon Buster goes in your own browser. It's stored on your device (local storage). I never see it, and clearing your browser data resets it.
  • Read what you send me. When you email me or fill in a form, I get your name, email and what you tell me. I use it to reply, send what you asked for, and send the enews if you said yes.

What I don't do

  • Sell, rent or trade your data. Ever.
  • Reuse one client's knowledge for another client. Ever.
  • Switch on advertising cookies without your yes. Ever.
  • Add you to the enews without asking. Ever.
  • Make automated decisions about you. Ever.
  • Store your card details. Ever.

Coming soon, and how you'll control it

  • Analytics, to see which pages actually help people.
  • Email through ActiveCampaign, for the enews, Jargon Buster unlocks and audit requests.
  • Remarketing through Google Ads and Meta, so you might see my ads after visiting.

None of these switch on without a clear cookie choice first. You can say yes, say no, or change your mind any time, and I'll update this page before anything new goes live.

The basics the law asks for

Written to cover the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, Europe's privacy law) and the APPs (Australian Privacy Principles).

Who's responsible
Brad, trading as Maverick Digital, Coffs Harbour NSW, Australia. Email brad@maverickdigital.com.ai. ABN (Australian Business Number): [to add].
What I collect
What you give me (name, email, business details, your question), and basic technical details from visits (IP address, browser, pages).
Why I'm allowed to
Your consent (the enews, and any future cookies); steps you ask for before or during working together (audits, quotes, projects); and my legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and replying to you.
How long I keep it
Enews: until you unsubscribe. Enquiries: up to two years if we don't work together. Client and tax records: as long as Australian law requires. Then it's deleted.
Who else handles it
Only the services that run this business: Cloudflare (hosting), my email provider, ActiveCampaign (once live), and the file services named above. Each processes data on my behalf, not for their own marketing.
Overseas
Some of these services store data outside Australia, including in the US. I use providers with recognised safeguards in place.
Your rights
Ask what I hold, correct it, delete it, limit or object to how it's used, get a copy to take elsewhere, and withdraw consent at any time. Email me and I'll respond within 30 days.
Complaints
Talk to me first. If you're not happy, contact the OAIC (Office of the Australian Information Commissioner) at oaic.gov.au, or your local data protection authority if you're in the UK or Europe.
Children
This site is for business owners and isn't aimed at anyone under 16.
Changes
If anything changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.

Plain English, on purpose. If anything here is unclear, ask me. That's sort of my whole thing.

Want a privacy policy people actually read?

I'll help you write one in plain English, alongside your lawyer, not instead of them.
